When most people think of pests, they think of invaders they want to keep out—ants in the kitchen, wasps near the deck, or mosquitoes in the yard. But one tiny insect deserves a lot more love and protection: the honey bee.
These buzzing pollinators play a vital role in keeping ecosystems balanced and our food supply strong. At EcoPro, we’re passionate about pest control—but we also believe in protecting beneficial species whenever possible. Here’s why it matters, and what you can do to help.
Why Honey Bees Are So Important
Honey bees are essential to our food chain and environment. Through pollination, they help crops grow, increase biodiversity, and support the health of plants, trees, and gardens. In fact, it’s estimated that one-third of the food we eat depends on pollination from bees and other pollinators.
Without honey bees, we’d lose many of the fruits, vegetables, and nuts we enjoy—and face serious challenges to agricultural production.
Unfortunately, honey bee populations are declining at alarming rates in North America due to habitat loss, pesticide use, disease, and climate change. This drop in numbers has wide-reaching effects, not just for nature lovers and farmers, but for all of us who depend on a stable food supply.
Protecting these bees means preserving balance in our environment and ensuring future generations have access to healthy, diverse foods.
What If There’s a Honey Bee Nest on Your Property?
If you discover a honey bee nest in or around your home, your first instinct may be to remove it—but we urge homeowners to take a more thoughtful approach. Unlike aggressive pests, honey bees are generally non-threatening unless provoked, and many colonies can be safely relocated rather than exterminated.
We never recommend using insecticide on honey bees unless you are in a life-threatening situation.

How You Can Help Honey Bees Thrive
-
Plant Bee-Friendly Flowers: Native wildflowers, herbs, and flowering shrubs can provide essential food sources.
-
Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Choose bee-safe pest control methods and avoid spraying during bloom times.
-
Support Local Beekeepers: Buying local honey helps sustain ethical, bee-friendly farming.
-
Leave Some “Wild” Space: Undisturbed corners of your yard or garden can offer nesting spots for bees and other pollinators.
